The runners are hired by Andrew Carter to look into a rising pop star, Cassandra Gallego, since he and other fans had noticed a change in small behavioral things over the past month and a half. Actaeon decides to check our the singer's Miami residence, but doesn't find anything. Havoc and Wan infiltrate a dinner party at the singer's Havana residence, and learn her manager, Fernando Losada, has noticed the subtle change in Cassandra's behavior as well, although he writes it off as stress from her rising popularity of late. Havoc finds out from the manager that much of Cassandra's recent fame is due to Victorio Jaramillo, an old-money businessman. Wan looks around Cassandra's rooms while the party continues, and finds a suspicious earthenware bottle. Actaeon hacks the Cassandra's and Victorio's commlinks on the flight back, discovering from Victorio that he's been giving a highly addictive substance to Cassandra, which makes her more compliant. After assensing the liquid in the container Wan found, Actaeon discovers it closely resembles zombie dust, but seems far more potent and without the negative drawbacks of typical zombie dust. With this information, they return to the Johnson, job complete.
